On July 16, 2012, at approximately 2:00 p.m., emergency personnel responded to the 2400 block of King Edward Street (Albina Park) regarding a possible assault involving a teenage male.

Witnesses indicated that the male appeared distraught when he began yelling at passersby. At one point, the male began chasing two individuals who approached him offering assistance.

The male was observed to enter the water on at least two occasions when he swam to the middle of the pond. The male appeared to be having difficulty remaining above water.

Emergency services attended and began searching the area. The male was not located at that time.

Earlier this morning, members of the WPS Underwater Search and Recovery Unit re-attended the scene and commenced a search. Just before 1:00 p.m. today, officers recovered a body from the pond. Efforts to positively identify this individual are ongoing.

The investigation is continuing.
