Montreal’s La Presse is reported to have confirmed that Justin Trudeau is going to declare his long-awaited candidacy for the leadership of Liberals this Tuesday. Quebec media sources have also established the news of Trudeau’s plans to attempt for the leadership of the party. Rumor has it, that Trudeau will make it official through a news conference held at his house riding of Papineau.
Justin Trudeau’s father and former prime minister of Canada, Pierre Trudeau, is the country’s most controversial political figures. Justin Trudeau has, until today, been evasive of any intentions to run for the leadership of the Liberal party. He previously acclaimed that he only wanted to spend some time with his family, but things have definitely changed now.
Liberals new leader is scheduled to be elected on April 14, 2013, in Ottawa, as Michael Ignatieff gets officially replaced. It is worth noticing that Ignatieff’s leadership did not turn out productive for the Liberals as they faced one of their most unsuccessful elections in the history. Among Trudeau there are few other names that are expected to be nominated for Leadership. Other possible candidates include Liberal MPs Marc Garneau, Denis Coderre and Dominic Leblanc and former Liberal MP Martha Hall Findlay.
Numerous Liberal sources have also confirmed that Trudeau is planning a news conference in his constituency on Tuesday. Trudeau is anticipated to positively confirm the rumors of him attempting to follow the footsteps of his father, former Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau.
