35 year old man in hospital after a multi vehicle crash on the Fred Gardiner Expressway in Toronto

On Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at 2:15 p.m., police responded to a call for a multi-vehicle collision on the Fred Gardiner Expressway, west of Islington Avenue.

It is reported that:

– a 35-year-old man was driving a Jeep Cherokee westbound on the Fred Gardiner Expressway, in the passing lane, west of Islington Avenue,

– the driver changed lanes, from the passing lane into the centre lane when, for unknown reasons, lost control of his vehicle,

 
– a second vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, driven by a 19-year-old man, who was also travelling westbound in the centre lane, steered right to avoid a collision with the Jeep,
– the Toyota driver lost control of his vehicle and collided with the north guard rail, rolling over several times before coming to a stop and blocking the roadway.

The 35-year-old man was taken to hospital with life-threatening head injuries.
