The Councillor charged with drunk driving after being cornered on roadside in October, Ana Bailao, has now pleading guilty. Previously, Ms. Bailao allegedly followed a legal advice and pleaded not guilty to charges of impaired driving caused by drunk-driving as she exceeded the blood alcohol limit of 0.08.

Ms. Bailao is now scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, before which she addressed a press conference on Monday to announce a remorseful public confession because she decided to follow her “heart.” She submitted official documents in court on Monday morning, pleading guilty to charges of exceeding the legal limit of blood alcohol level. She acknowledged that for the first time, she registered a blood alcohol concentration of 0.130. Ms. Bailao shared that the charges of impaired driving have been dropped. Even though Councilor Bailao has denied the possibility of resigning on account of the shameful event, she is banned from driving for 12 months and compelled to pay a fine of $1,000.

36-years old council women, Ms. Bailao, stated during her press conference that “I made a bad choice, I take full responsibility for that and I accept the consequences.” She explained that “I do not and have never condoned drinking and driving and this situation has made me intimately aware of the dangers this behaviour can cause. For the hurt and offence I caused others, I again sincerely apologize. The only thing I ask is for people to learn from my example. The decisions you make in a single moment can have life-altering consequences.”
