The hard working Finance Minister, Jim Flaherty, is ailing from a rare skin condition, which is notorious for causing numerous side-effects including anxiety and nervousness and, in rare cases, serious psychological side effects like depression, confusion and even psychosis. An official statement issued from Flaherty’s office on Thursday morning confessed that Flaherty is taking a commonly-prescribed corticosteroid drug, i.e. prednisone, which helps him to recover from the “a non-life threatening, but serious dermatological condition known as Bullous Pemphigoid.”

It was highlighted that the side effects of prednisone can result in serious consequences, due to which, it is partially banned for the pilots by aviation authorities in the U.S. But the statement mentioned that Flaherty, who will soon be expectedly delivering a federal budget in March, and his office are assured that the drug will not affect his job performance. Rumors were being spread about Flaherty’s health condition across Parliament Hill from several months, but it was not exposed publically until a strangely lethargic TV interview of Flaherty that aired in Switzerland last week, which left him no choice but to admit his condition in public. 63-years-old Flaherty was in Davos at the time, representing Canada at a high-profile annual conference of the World Economic Forum.

Prior to that, Flaherty’s office had denied admittance of the problem on Wednesday, when a journalist inquired his director of communications, Dan Miles, if the minister’s performance in the interview was caused by either alcohol or a medical problem. Miles stated that “I don’t think there’s anything wrong,” and that “he was jet-lagged, obviously, when he did the interview.”
