Two dead at rapper GloRilla concert

Two people have died and eight have been injured at a concert by rapper GloRilla in the US state of New York. Panic ensued in the Rochester venue shortly after the Sunday night show, as crowds thought they heard gunshots. However, local authorities found no evidence of any actual shooting at the Main Street Armory.

“When people wanted to leave the room, the crowd started running en masse to the exit,” said the police chief at a press conference. Initial findings suggest that the victims died of being crushed in the panicked crowd.

GloRilla, who was nominated for a Grammy this year in the best rap performance category, was unaware of the incident until after she had left the venue. She expressed her devastation on Twitter, writing, “My fans mean everything to me. I pray for the families of the victims and for a speedy recovery for everyone.”

Police found three seriously injured women in the room, aged 33 and 35. One died in hospital on Sunday, and the other died on Monday night. The third is still in critical condition. The seven other victims have non-life-threatening injuries.

One witness told local news channel WHEC TV how she managed to leave the room unharmed. “The girl next to me and I kept helping each other up. I said to myself, ‘You have to get up now, you have to move. If you stay here they will keep running over you’.”

An investigation is underway to determine whether the owners of the hall had taken the required safety measures.
