On June 22, 2010, at approximately 3 p.m., the Acadian Peninsula Street Crime Unit, in conjunction with the Caraquet RCMP, intercepted a motorcyclist travelling at high speeds.
The motorcycle was seen travelling at more than 180 km/h on various roads, including Route 113 (also known as the Shippagan Plains), Route 345 (Évangeline) and Route 11 toward Caraquet. An unmarked police car attempted to intercept the motorcycle, but the driver managed to escape. A patrol officer from the Caraquet RCMP eventually intercepted the motorcycle in the Town of Caraquet.
The 16-year-old driver from Shippagan, N.B. was arrested. He will face numerous charges for dangerous driving as well as charges under the Criminal Code of Canada.
The youth will appear in Provincial Court in Caraquet on September 28, 2010. The investigation is ongoing.
