Salt Springs woman dies in a fatal motor vehicle collision in Hampton, N.B.

Hampton RCMP are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Main Street in Hampton on August 22, 2013, at approximately 4:00 p.m.

A 21-year-old woman from Salt Springs, N.B., died at the scene as the result of her injuries. The preliminary investigation indicates she was not wearing a seatbelt. She was the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle.

An RCMP Collision Reconstructionist was called to the scene. The preliminary investigation indicates that the crash occurred when the victim’s vehicle was struck by an oncoming vehicle that had crossed the centre line of the road.

A 17-year-old girl, the driver and lone occupant of the other vehicle, was wearing a seatbelt and suffered non-life threatening injuries.  Alcohol is not believed to have been a contributing factor to the collision.

The name of the victim is being withheld at this time pending notification of family.

Update on Correction: An earlier news release stated that one of the vehicles had crossed the centre line of the road and struck the other vehicle. The cause of the collision has not yet been determined and is still under investigation.
