U.S. President, Barack ObamaU.S. President Barack Obama has said in an interview on Friday that new allegations regarding the use of chemical weapons by Syrian forces were “clearly a big event of grave concern”.

He has also cautioned of the United States’ intervention and a quick involvement into the Syrian crisis in order to consider the human and financial “costs”.

Mr. Obama has continued: “The notion that the U.S. can somehow solve what is a sectarian complex problem inside of Syria sometimes is overstated.”

The U.S. president has also indicated that a chemical weapons attack, is proven, would be “very troublesome” and said: “That starts getting to some core national interests that the United States has, both in terms of us making sure that weapons of mass destruction are not proliferating as well as needing to protect our allies, our bases in the region.

“This is something that is going to require America’s attention and hopefully the entire international community’s attention.”

Russia has also urged Syria’s government to cooperate with UN team of weapons inspectors into Syria to investigate Wednesday’s alleged chemical attack in Damascus.

U.K. Foreign Secretary William Hague has said on Friday: “We do believe that this is a chemical attack by the Assad regime on a large scale

“It is now 48 hours since the reports started to come in of what seems to have been a terrible atrocity near Damascus including the use of chemical weapons.

“This is not something that a humane or civilised world can ignore. The only possible explanation of what we’ve been able to see is that it was a chemical attack.”

Mr. Hague has told the UN’s priority was to allow inspectors onto the sites of the attacks but so far they are had not been allowed in the region. He has also added: “Already it seems that the Assad regime has something to hide – why else wouldn’t they allow the UN team to go there?”
