51-year-old motorcyclist killed in Ajax

 A 51-year-old Ajax resident has died following a motorcycle collision on Harwood Avenue south of Bayly Street in Ajax last night.

On Monday August 2, 2010 at approximately 11:56 p.m. officers from West Division responded to a single motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle on Harwood Avenue south of Bayly Street in Ajax. A 51-year-old male driver operating his 1985 Yamaha motorcycle was traveling southbound on Harwood Avenue when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road and hit a curb. The driver was thrown from his motorcycle and sustained life-threatening injuries. He was transported to Lakeridge Health hospital where he was pronounced deceased. A post mortem has been ordered by the Coroner to determine the cause of death. Next of kin have not authorized the release of the victim’s name.

Collision investigators from the Traffic Services Branch were called to investigate and the roadway was closed for several hours to collect evidence and to conduct their investigation. The investigation is ongoing and police are still determining if speed and/or alcohol were factors in this collision.
