Today in the legislature, the NDP critic for Sport, Tourism and Culture, MPP Paul Miller, called on the government to avoid the disastrous mistakes of the past and to be transparent about security plans for the Pan/Parapan Am Games.

“We don’t want another G20 where citizens, Games participants and enforcement personnel are not sure who’s in charge and what laws are being enforced,” said Miller, the MPP for Hamilton East-Stoney Creek.

“This Minister has evaded answering simple, direct questions about security for the Games and it’s time MPPs – representing their constituents – are brought up-to-date on the structure, the costs, and who is to do what under which authority,” demanded Miller.

Miller pressed the government to reveal which law enforcement organizations will be involved, who is leading the process and how any security problems will be handled so that there is proper treatment of citizens, Pan Am participants and law enforcement personnel.

“We want to assure our constituents that the problems that occurred during the G20 don’t happen again,” said Miller.
