Two Saint-Isidore people face several counts on sexual assault

The two were arrested on December 19, 2013, following a month-long investigation by the Tracadie-Sheila RCMP. The investigation began after police received a complaint.

37-year-old Régis Brideau is facing seven charges:

– operating a common bawdy house

– two counts of sexual assault

– administering drugs to a person in order to enable that person to engage in illicit sex

– enticing a person to a common bawdy house for sex

– communicating with a person under the age of 18 for sexual services

– luring a child over the internet

Brideau appeared in Tracadie-Sheila Provincial Court on December 20. He has been remanded into custody, and is scheduled to return to court on December 23.

An 18-year-old woman, who cannot be named because she was still a minor at the time the alleged offences took place, is facing five charges:

– aiding and abetting a sexual assault

– enticing a person to a common bawdy house for sex

– living off of the avails of prostitution of a person who is under the age of 18

– attempts to convince a person to be a prostitute

– communicating with a person under the age of 18 for sexual services

The woman appeared in Tracadie-Sheila Provincial Court on December 19. She was released with conditions and is scheduled to appear in court again in January 2014.

To date, police have identified four victims, all girls under the age of 18 from the Acadian Peninsula. The investigation is ongoing.
