District 7 RCMP are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Highway 2 near Pokiok, N.B., on Monday September 6, 2010.

The investigation revealed that the driver, a 19-year-old man from Fredericton, collided with a rockwall in the median which separates the eastbound and westbound lanes.

The victim died at the scene as a result of his injuries. The 20-year-old passenger from Douglas, NB was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

An RCMP collision re-constructionist attended the scene to investigate the cause of the collision. It appears the victim was sending a text message with his cell phone while he was driving and that may have been a contributing factor at the time of the crash.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
