Markham man Vernon Tang charged in connection to a sexual assault investigation

Investigators with the York Regional Police Sexual Assault Unit have charged a suspect following an incident of sexual assault in the City of Markham.

On Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 9 p.m. officers attended the Pacific Mall located at 4300 Steeles Avenue East in Markham after a female had reported that she had been groped by an unknown male.

The assault was alleged to have taken place in a store within the mall and surveillance cameras captured the incident, as well as an image of the suspect. A male matching the suspect description was quickly taken into custody by mall security and turned over to York Regional Police.

Investigators believe that the suspect is responsible for similar incidents that have taken place in Markham and Toronto. They have charged Vernon Tang, 33, of the City of Markham with Criminal Harassment, Sexual Assault X 3 and Indecent Act. Investigators feel that there may be more victims and are releasing the image of the accused with the hopes that those victims will come forward to
police.

Suspect is described as:

– Male, Asian

– 33 years

– 5’3”, 130lb

– Short brown hair

– Brown eyes

The investigation is ongoing.
