Durham Regional Police are looking for a Whitby high school teacher, 52-year-old Jeffrey Boucher, who was reported missing on Monday morning. Authorities were informed that he went out for his morning run on Monday and never returned, hence the search area mainly focused on the area around his home, i.e. Heber Downs Conservation Area.

Boucher’s 17-year-old daughter, Bettina, revealed that her dad usually wakes up at 5:30 a.m. and routinely goes out for a run at six in the morning. She mentioned that “he’s home by seven and showered and everything and he leaves for work around 7,” due to which “by 8 o’clock, we were freaking out.” Bettina also reported via a post on Twitter that her father was wearing running clothes at the time she last saw him. Thereafter, Boucher failed to show up at Bowmanville High School for work that day and his car and cellphone were located at his home.

Director of corporate communications at Durham Regional Police, David Selby, mentioned that “we’ve been searching steadily since yesterday morning when it was reported.” Selby alleged that police have sought help from the search and rescue Ontario Volunteer Emergency Response Team (OVERT) and a Public Order Unit trained in ground search. He explained all departments are working using helicopters with thermal imaging cameras, canine units, and ATV officers to navigate the rugged, ravine-filled terrain. He mentioned that “it’s [a resource] we rely on and use on a fairly regular basis.”
