Brampton teenager Yonatan Tesfaldet charged with Attempt murder

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest in a stabbing investigation.

It is alleged that:

– on Sunday, March 9, 2014, at approximately 4:30 p.m., an 18-year-old parishioner entered Calvary Church, 746 Pape Avenue

– without provocation, the 18-year-old stabbed a 25-year-old man sitting in the pew next to him

– the assault was stopped by fellow parishioners who restrained and held the man for police

The 25-year-old man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The 18-year-old has been identified as Yonatan Tesfaldet, of Brampton. He is charged with:

1) Attempt murder
2) Aggravated assault
3) Possession of a weapon – dangerous to public peace

He was scheduled to appear in court at College Park, courtroom 507, on Monday, March 10, 2014, at 10 a.m.
