Montecristo Jewellers robbed in Vancouver

The Vancouver Police Department Major Crime Section is investigating a brazen robbery of Montecristo Jewellers at Oakridge Mall on September 30th at 8:30 p.m.

One man entered the jewellery store initially posing as a customer asking to see merchandise. Two other men were outside the store and allegedly assaulted the security guard while also discharging pepper spray. The suspect inside the store produced a gun while demanding staff open the cases. A number of shots were fired inside the store before all three men fled with merchandise from the store.

Two of the suspects were seen getting into a waiting older model red van outside the mall, which was driven by a 4th suspect. One person was arrested by police outside the mall after allegedly firing a shot from his gun. A firearm and quantity of merchandise were recovered at the scene.

Three suspects escaped in the van and were not located.

The security officer and one staff member received minor injuries.

The suspect in custody is a 15 year old youth from Surrey and numerous charges are pending.

The 15 year old youth involved in the Montecristo Jewellers robbery September 30th is charged with assault with a weapon, possession of stolen property over $5,000, and a number of firearms offences including:

· possession of a restricted firearm
· pointing a firearm
· use of a firearm in commission of an offence

He has been remanded in custody and his next court date is October 4th at 9:30 a.m. in youth court.
