Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit are releasing the name of a murder victim and describing a suspect vehicle while continuing to ask witnesses to come forward following a fatal shooting yesterday in the City of Vaughan.

On Sunday, May 4, 2014, at approximately 4:30 p.m., York Regional Police responded to reports of gunshots in a retail parking lot in the area of Highway 7 and Weston Road. Attending officers found a lone male victim laying in the parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds. The man was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has been identified as Ritesh Thakur, 41, of the City of Toronto.

Investigators are looking for a newer model Honda Civic, silver, four-door vehicle with tinted windows which was seen leaving the scene before police arrived.

It is believed that this was a targeted crime and not a random event.

There is no indication that this shooting is linked to any other recent shooting in Vaughan.
