Meng Ly Lim, Cho Chea and Veasna Sam arrested for the murder of Vandin Svay in Markham

Investigators in the York Regional Police Homicide Unit have charged three adults with First Degree Murder in connection with the October 16 fatal stabbing at the Century Plaza City of Vaughan.

On Friday, October 22, 2010, two suspects turned themselves in to police after contacting investigators working out of the Homicide Unit earlier that day. Meng Ly LIM, 28 and Cho CHEA, 24, both of Toronto, turned themselves into the York Regional Police #2 District Headquarters located in Richmond Hill. A third suspect, Veasna SAM, 30, of  Toronto, turned himself in to police on Saturday, October 23, 2010. Investigators are still seeking a fourth suspect in relation to this murder.

On Saturday, October 16, 2010, at approximately 11:50 p.m. police responded to a disturbance call at a plaza located at 398 Ferrier Street, in the Town of Markham. Uniform officers arrived on scene and learned that an altercation had taken place at this location and that there were injured individuals being transported by friends to hospital. Officers attended the hospital and learned that two individuals had been admitted to the hospital and were suffering from stab wounds.

One of the individuals identified as Mr. Vandin SVAY of Newmarket, succumbed to his injuries while a 24-year-old Newmarket man is currently listed in stable condition and remains in hospital following an altercation that occurred outside a Markham restaurant. The cause of death has been determined to be sharp-force trauma.

CHARGED:

• Meng Ly LIM, 28, of Toronto
• Cho CHEA, 24, of Toronto
• Veasna SAM, 30, of Toronto

CHARGES INCLUDE:

• First Degree Murder
• Attempt Murder

All three accused have been held in custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Saturday, October 23 and Sunday, October 24, 2010.
