Christopher Reid and Jawara Brown charged with firearm offences in Toronto

On Thursday, November 4, 2010, officers from 51 Division began an investigation into two men alleged to be in the possession of firearms.

It is alleged that:

– officers approached a parked car off of Gloucester Street, with two occupants inside – one in the driver’s seat and the other in the rear seat,

– as the officers approached the car, they identified themselves as police officers to the driver, who then tossed a handgun into the back seat,

– both men were arrested at this time.

It is further alleged that:

– a loaded handgun was located in the pocket of the man seated in the back seat,

– a loaded .38 Colt revolver, a loaded, 9mm Smith and Wesson semi-automatic firearm, a large quantity of marijuana and cash was also seized.

Christopher Reid, 31, and Jawara Brown, 29, both of Toronto, have each been charged with:

1. Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition,
2. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm,
3. Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized,
4. Possession of a Firearm Obtained by the Commission of an Offence,
5. two counts of Possession of Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order,
6. Unauthorized Presence of a Firearm in a Vehicle,
7. Possess Firearm Knowing the Serial Number has been Altered, Defaced or Removed,
8. Possession for the Purpose Marijuana,
9. Possession Proceeds of Crime.

The accused were scheduled to appear in court on Friday, November 5, 2010, at Old City Hall, room 101, 10 a.m.
