Authorities are anticipated to lay a second degree murder charge against a 38-year-old Calgary man in connection to the death of his common-law wife reported missing since October of 2012. Police executed a search warrant their at Ogden residence on 26A St. S.E. on Friday, where Lisa Mitchell lived at the time of her reported disappearance, and located human remains inside the home.

Thereafter, police arrested Mitchell’s common-law husband at a location outside of Calgary in connection to the search and now plans to lay multiple charges including second degree murder and indignity to human remains. Mitchell’s two children, aged 7 and 5, are living with the suspect at the Ogden home since Lisa’s disappearance while the suspect is the biological father of one of the children. CPS Missing Persons Team’s Sgt. John Hebert stated that “the kids are one of our primary concerns and that’s why we’ve been very careful with discussing these matters,” adding that “they are being taken care of at this time, but obviously they’re going to need additional resources a later.”

Officials disclosed that The Forensic Crime Scene Unit is still investigating the residence and the Medical Examiner has been notified to schedule an autopsy for Monday. Sgt. Hebert confirmed to have informed Lisa’s mother about the arrest. Sgt. Hebert stated that “I went out and notified her yesterday of the developments,” adding that “I think she took the news with a measure of grace considering what the news was.”
