A 19-year-old driver and three passengers escaped serious injury after their vehicle left the roadway, became airborne and struck a hydro pole Friday night.

On Friday, November 26, 2010 just before 10 p.m., Officers were called to the area of Concession Road 3 west of Lambs Road in Clarington for a motor vehicle collision. A four-door Pontiac Sunfire, being driven by a 19-year-old Clarington man, was westbound when it left the roadway, entered a ditch and then became airborne, striking a hydro pole.

The vehicle came to rest on the driver side door beside the damaged pole. The driver was pinned but three teenaged passengers were able to make their way out of the vehicle. Emergency personnel eventually were able to remove the driver safely.

All parties were transported to Lakeridge Health – Bowmanville and were treated for non-life threatening injuries. Alcohol is not considered a factor but excessive speed appears to be a contributing cause. The investigation is continuing.
