A Nanaimo man has been charged with five counts of sexual assault involving four young females.

Gary Alan MCINTYRE, age 47, was arrested Friday afternoon January 7th on four additional counts of sexual assault involving young females, ranging in age from 7 to 14. The investigation into MCINTYRE began in late September when parents of a 14 year old female reported inappropriate sexual contact while she visited MCINTYRE’s family at his home in Cedar. Since then additional victims have come forward and on Friday police were in a position to arrest MCINTYRE on the additional charges.

MCINTYRE appeared before a Nanaimo Provincial court judge late yesterday afternoon and was released on numerous conditions. “These incidents allegedly occurred within the previous eighteen months with young females ranging in age from 7 to 14 and involved MCINTYRE allegedly touching their genitals”, said Constable Gary O’Brien, media spokesperson for the Nanaimo RCMP.

Several of the families are currently being supported by the Nanaimo RCMP Victim Services. The Nanaimo RCMP also want to advise the public that these incidents allegedly took place while the youth were at the suspect’s home in Cedar. In all the incidents, MCINTYRE was present while the children had a play date with MCINTYRE’s child. “The reason this is being mentioned now is to alert parents to the fact that if their child was ever in his home, they too may have been subjected to or witnessed his behavior,”said O’Brien.

MCINTYRE was also involved for many years with the Nanaimo White Rapids swim group and is currently on a leave of absence from his place of employment.

MCINTYRE’s home was subject of a search warrant carried out by the Nanaimo Serious Crime Unit on December 28th and various computer equipment and hard drives were seized. All items have been forwarded to RCMP lab for a forensic examination. To date no results have been returned. MCINTYRE moved out of the home on that date and up until his arrest on Friday was residing in a local motel. His conditions of release are: no contact with youth under the age of 16 ,not to attend to any school, school grounds, public parks, pools or anywhere youth gather.
