Just before 1:00AM, this morning a police officer from the Vernon RCMP Detachment was patrolling in the 2400 block of 45th Ave in Vernon when he noticed smoke coming from a residence.

Our officer immediately called the Vernon Fire Department. He noticed the smoke had doubled in size in that a short time. Our officer then went to the house and started banging on a window as he made his way to the front door. Entry was made into the house where he met the family members coming to the door to escape the smoke. The family was seated in the police vehicle while the fire department arrived. The parents and two children age 1 and 4 are all Ok and are staying with friends.

The fire was contained to one room and the attic area of the house. The Fire Department has deemed the fire not suspicious.
