Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at 1300 Dowling about 4:30 a.m. on Saturday (Jan. 22).

Jason Deran McCoy (b/m, DOB: 10-31-82) is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 180th State District Court.

The victim, Deylan Braxton, 27, of Houston, was pronouced dead at Ben Taub General Hospital.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant M. Bearden and Officer G. Weinschreider reported:

McCoy, along with three passengers, was traveling southbound on Dowling in a silver BMW when he ran a red light and struck a black Dodge Caliber traveling eastbound on Polk. The BMW slid southbound on Dowling, struck a tree, bounced off a brick business building, and struck a telephone pole before coming to a stop. Braxton, a backseat passenger in the BMW, was critically injured and transported to the hospital, where he died. The remaining passengers of the BMW, and both drivers, suffered non-life threatening injuries.
