On February 19, 2011, Dalhousie RCMP launched an investigation into a break, enter and theft at the St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Dalhousie. A number of ceremonial items were stolen, along with other church property.
Police sought the public’s help by providing information and photographs of the stolen items to local media. An area antique shop proprietor subsequently recognized the items and contacted police to advise that the stolen property was in his possession.
Follow-up investigation led police to arrest 42-year-old Jean-Pierre Poirier of Dalhousie in connection with the crime. Poirier has been charged with possession of stolen of goods and breach of probation. Further charges are pending and Poirier is scheduled to appear in Campbellton Provincial Court again on the morning of February 25, 2011.
