Roderick Basaraba found dead in a Calgary fire

The Calgary Police Service Arson Unit and Homicide Unit are investigating an incident in which a man was found in a house fire yesterday.

On, Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at approximately 10:15 a.m., emergency personnel were called to a fire in the 1800 block of 15 Street S.W.

An adult male resident was discovered inside the home. Firefighters removed the man and he was transported to a local hospital. He was pronounced deceased later in the afternoon.

As a result of the investigation to date, and the autopsy conducted today, this incident is currently being treated as a homicide.

The victim has been identified as Roderick BASARABA, 57, of Calgary.

The cause of death is not being released at this time.
