Bowen Island: The investigation into missing Squamish Teen Jodi Henrickson is now in the hands of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

In the late fall of 2010 investigators with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team met with investigators from the Sea to Sky Regional Police Service Serious Crime Section to discuss the possibility of the HENRICKSON investigation being transitioned to IHIT.

In December of 2010 the investigation was transferred to IHIT, at which time a comprehensive review of the investigation was conducted.

IHIT investigators are now taking the lead with assistance from the Sea to Sky Regional Police Service Serious Crime Section. Police will be continuing the investigation into the disappearance of 17-year-old Jodi HENRICKSON. Jodi’s disappearance is considered suspicious and foul play is suspected.

Over the course of the next few weeks and months residents from the Bowen Island Community can expect to see investigators from IHIT on the Island making additional inquiries.

February 23, 2011 will be the 19th birthday of Jodi. Investigators felt that this date would be an appropriate time to remind the Bowen Island Community of this unsolved mystery and reach out to those that may have information regarding Jodi’s disappearance in hopes that they will now come forward to aid the investigation.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Jodi HENRICKSON last had contact with her family and friends on Friday June 19th, 2009 and advised that she was heading camping for the weekend and would be returning home on Monday or Tuesday at the latest.

Police were able to determine that Jodi had attended a house party on Bowen Island and was last seen between 6 – 7 AM on Saturday June 20th. Jodi did not make any contact with her family or friends; this behavior was totally out of character for her. Jodi is described as being;

17-year-old Caucasian female, long dark brown hair, small build, she stood approximately 160 cm ( 5’3"). Jodi was last seen wearing a black leather jacket, black long sleeve shirt, and blue jeans.

Jodi was reported missing to Squamish Detachment by her family on the evening of Wednesday June 24th, 2009. The Sea to Sky Regional Police Service Serious Crime Section began a missing person’s investigation.

Investigators along with North Shore Search and Rescue and supported by RCMP Air Services, Marine Services, Police Dog Services spent several days on Bowen Island conducting searches and interviewing individuals identified through the investigation. During this time a great deal of information was learned by investigators.

Numerous tips and sighting were reported to police, all of which have been followed up and proven to be unfounded.

On July 1, 2009 Police and North Shore Search and Rescue conducted additional searches with the assistance of the Bowen Island Community. At that time, police indicated that there was no supporting evidence that suggested Jodi ever left Bowen Island.

On Saturday July 17, 2010 Police investigators from Squamish and Bowen Island along with North Shore Search and Rescue and Auxiliary RCMP Officers conducted an additional search on Bowen Island looking for small articles or personal items that may have been left behind at the time of Jodi’s disappearance.

The Sea to Sky Regional Police Service, Serious Crime Section continued to move forward with the investigation following up all tips and information that came into police.
