Blue Jays will honor Jose Bautista

The Toronto Blue Jays have announced that they will be honoring one of their former players, Jose Bautista, in a pre-game ceremony on August 12th. Bautista, who played for the team for nine-plus seasons, will take his place on the Blue Jays Level of Excellence.

Blue Jays President and CEO, Mark Shapiro, said that Bautista’s on-field achievements propelled the team to greatness, and that he undoubtedly belongs on the Level of Excellence. Bautista, who was traded to Toronto from the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2008, became a household name in Toronto, making six all-star games and winning three Silver Slugger awards.

He set the single-season franchise record with 54 home runs in 2010, and his 288 homers with the Blue Jays trail only Joe Carter in the team’s record books. Bautista played for several other teams during his 15-year career, including Tampa Bay, Kansas City, Baltimore, the New York Mets, Atlanta, and Philadelphia.
