The Canadian Senior Women’s “B” Team played Team Belgium twice over the weekend and finished with an even 1-1 record. In the first game on Saturday, Canada lost by a single point, 73-72.
In the game, Canadian guard Justine Colley (East Preston, NS) scored 14 points, while Miah-Marie Langlois (Windsor, ON) finished with 13 points and Taryn Wicijowski (Regina, SK) grabbed nine rebounds.
“The coaches are proud of the grit our team showed tonight,” said head coach, Fabian McKenzie. “We had some defensive lapses and at the international level, that won’t win you games.”
“We could have executed better tonight,” said Canadian guard Miah-Marie Langlois. “We let Belgium score too many points and our defense has to win us games.”
In the final game versus Team Belgium and in their season, Canada squeaked by with a 58-55 victory.
Korissa Williams (Amherstburg, ON) led the way for Canada with 11 points in the game, while Justine Colley followed with 10 points.
“Our team showed tremendous character and battled very hard for this victory. It feels great to get a win against a very talented team,” said Fabian McKenzie.
Katherine Plouffe (Edmonton, AB) commented on the final game, “We improved a lot over the five games in Europe. Today we overcame fatigue and showed a lot of heart in the win.”
The Canadian Senior Women’s “B” Team finished with a 1-3-1 record on their European trip.
