To give a little history behind Diwali, it is an official holiday in India, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Fiji. Diwali involves the lighting of small clay lamps (diyas) filled with oil to signify the triumph of good over evil. During Diwali celebrants wear new clothes and share sweets and snacks with others. Some Indian business communities begin the financial year on the first day of Diwali wishing for good luck the following year.
“We as South Asians should look forward to an event of this Magnitude, it showcases our celebration on a grand scale and also shows our support of the Toronto Raptors. “said Rajeev Bhalla President of ICE. “We are happy to show our support for the Raptors as this season begins and to show the team that we are always behind them.” Tickets for this event will start as low as $25 and will be for sale starting September 10th, 2010. So get your tickets before they are all gone, and you miss out on an historic South Asian event.
We are also looking for Volunteers and Sponsors for this event. So if you or anyone knows someone whom maybe interested in this event please do not hesitate to contact us. For any questions or concerns please contact Rajeev Bhalla at (416)419-0939

.My son Niko (17) is on the Regional Elite Development Academy – the only prep team for basketball in Canada. We are Hindus with heritage from India and Guyana. This year Niko and I will be apart as on Nov. 10 I will be in India having surgery with the hope of prolonging my fight with multiple sclerosis There is a wonderful celebration of Diwali for him at a time when his faith is critical., While his team will be playing in a tournament and I will be in the operating room given the time difference – we would be pleased to make a donation to this event and I will do my best to see that Niko attends. I will be so pleased to know that this event is going on in Canada while I am in India. Please don’t hesitate to contact me at dr.n.daljit@gmail.com. Sincerely, Nandini
