New Zealand all-rounder Anton Devcich has powered his Montreal Tigers side to victory in their opening game of the Global T20 Canada competition on Saturday.
The 33-year-old former Black Cap produced a quickfire knock of 40 not out off 23 balls as his team went on to beat the Winnipeg Hawks by 24 runs in a contest which was reduced to 12-overs-a-side, reportedly due to 'security' issues at the venue – the CAA Centre in Brampton, Ontario, where all of the tournament's matches are being played.
Having been asked to bat first, the Tigers powered their way to 135-3, thanks to a 65-run second-wicket partnership between Devcich and former West Indies international Sunil Narine, who blasted 59 off 30 balls.
Devcich continued the onslaught, hitting two fours and three sixes in his knock – his first competitive outing since the Pakistan Super League in March.
