Thirty years ago today, Mary Ann Robertson gave birth to Toronto Argonauts offensive lineman Taylor Robertson. Taylor’s mother lost her battle with breast cancer when he was just seven years old and, in her memory, Taylor today launched his ‘Life on the Line’ initiative in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Taylor’s personal experiences illustrated to him that breast cancer affects not only the stricken patient, but also the patient’s husband, children, other family members and friends that are part of the painful journey after diagnosis. Taylor plans to work as tirelessly off the field for ‘Life on the Line’ as he does on it to raise breast cancer awareness, especially among men, through events and other awareness programs.

Taylor Robertson remarked, “Breast cancer is a cause close to my heart and I have been working hard to find the best way I can help to raise both awareness and funds. While breast cancer is predominately found in women, the disease affects all of us. My partnership with the Foundation is in memory of my mother and I look forward to working with the Argonauts organization, Argos fans, the community and all those who have lost a loved one to this disease. Together, we can make an impact.”

‘Life On The Line’ will announce upcoming events and programs throughout the year to engage community support for this cause. Taylor has committed to donate $65 (his jersey #) to the CBCF for every Argos victory in the 2010 season and is inviting fans to match his donation. He has also organized a ‘Team Life On The Line’ to participate in the upcoming Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation’s Run For The Cure on October 3 at the University of Toronto Mississauga. Fans who are interested in participating can find out more information on Taylor’s website: www.lifeontheline.ca

Commented Argonauts President and CEO Bob Nicholson, “We commend Taylor for his efforts in helping the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to raise awareness and funds for a disease that affects so many. Our Toronto Argonauts players truly are community ambassadors and leaders and Taylor has shown his dedication to many of the Argos community programs over his time in Toronto. We look forward to supporting Taylor in this worthy endeavour.”

Taylor Robertson will be available for media interviews regarding this initiative today at 1:30 p.m. at the Toronto Argonauts practice facility, 3359 Mississauga Rd. N., south field, and by request. He will be discussing ‘Life On The Line’ on THE FAN 590’s “Inside The Argos” with Mike Hogan tonight at 11:00 p.m.

Life On The Line is a non-profit initiative to raise awareness of breast cancer by engaging the community, especially men, through events and other awareness programs.
