The Winnipeg Jets hockey club in conjunction with the National Hockey League is proud to announce that forward Blake Wheeler has been named the NHL ‘Second Star’ of the Week ending Feb. 19/12.
Wheeler, 25, earned eight points (1g, 7a) in his last four games and is currently riding a three-game point streak. The Robbinsdale, MN native earned his first-ever four point night with four assists in a 5-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Feb. 19/12.
In the game prior, Wheeler notched a goal and two assists against his former club in a 4-2 win over the Boston Bruins. The three point night was the fourth time this season Wheeler has accomplished this feat. Wheeler’s first assist on Friday was the 100th of his NHL career.
After 59 games played this season, Wheeler leads the Jets with 46 points (11g, 35a). After this week, Wheeler earned a new career high for points; his previous high was 45 points which he achieved in 2008-09 in 81 games. He also leads his club in assists (35) and powerplay goals (6).
