The Winnipeg Jets announced Andrew Ladd and Evander Kane have been named to the Canadian Men’s National Team that will compete in the 2012 IIHF Men’s World Championship. The tournament will run from May 4-20 in Helsinki, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden.
Ladd, 26, played in all 82 games with the Jets this season and recorded 50 points (28G, 22A) along with 64 penalty minutes. He has played in 484 career NHL games between Carolina, Chicago, Atlanta and Winnipeg for 258 career points (120G, 138A) and 283 penalty minutes. He won the Stanley Cup with Carolina in 2006 and Chicago in 2010.
This will be the third time Ladd has represented his country as he played for Canada in the IIHF World Junior Championships in 2005 – earning the gold medal – as well as the IIHF World Championships in 2011.
Kane, 20, had a record breaking season earning career-highs in goals (30), assists (27) and points (57) after playing 74 games with the Jets. The Vancouver, BC native has played in 213 career NHL games between Atlanta and Winnipeg for 126 career points (63G, 63A) and 183 penalty minutes.
Kane has represented Canada the last four years playing on the 2008 U-18 Junior World Cup, the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championships and the 2010 & 2011 IIHF World Championships. Kane won the gold medal for Canada in 2008 and 2009.
