St. John’s IceCaps agree to terms with four skaters on AHL contracts

The Winnipeg Jets, in conjunction with the St. John’s IceCaps, are pleased to announce they have agreed to terms with John Albert, Jake Marto, Ryan Schnell and Hunter Tremblay on American Hockey League contracts. As per club policy, terms of the agreements were not disclosed. 

Albert, 23, played in 64 games with the St. John’s IceCaps last season. In that time, the left-handed centre recorded 27 points (9G, 18) and 28 penalty minutes. He also suited up for 15 post-season games with the IceCaps where he accumulated five points (3G, 2A) and eight penalty minutes. He was originally drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the sixth round, 175th overall, in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. 

Marto, 25, played in 12 games with the IceCaps last season where he recorded three assists. The Grand Fork, ND native played the majority of the season in the ECHL with the Colorado Eagles where he earned 16 points (2G, 14A) and 12 penalty minutes. 

Schnell, 23, played 12 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins last season where he earned one assist and 46 penalty minutes. He also played in 18 games with the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers for four assists and 108 penalty minutes. The 6’3, 225 pound forward has played in 23 career AHL games. 

Tremblay, 26, played in 68 games with the Oklahoma City Barons during the 2011-12 season. In that span, the Timmins, ON native recorded 31 points (16G, 15A) and 47 penalty minutes. He also appeared in eight Calder Cup Playoff games for six points (4G, 2A). The left-handed winger has played in 71 career AHL games.
