Tour de France cycling race has been started from Saturday June 30th and will continue till Sunday July 22th 2012, the 99th Tour de France will be made up of 1 prologue and 20 stages and will cover a total distance of 3,497 kilometres. 20 stages have been constituted under different categories, 9 are flat stage categories, 9 medium mountain stages and 2 individual time-trial stages. 2 rest days have been included in this over all Tour de France cycling race.
Today stage 6 will continue, which is another relatively flat section with a total 393 m high point over a distance of 207.5 km.
The race continues their easterly push towards the mountains from Épernay to Metz . With only one Category 4 climb, Stage 6 of the Tour de France will be one last chance for the sprinters to stand out for the essence of a week. This is another long stage – 207.5 km or 129 miles.
After a week of racing, the race is getting pretty hammer up, and many sprinters have seen the blacktop more often than they would like. There's a distant chance that the day's break away will help them out to stay alive till the finish, but more than likely, the contest will finish in a cluster sprint to the line. The most of the contenders will try to keep their energy and stay out of any nuisance, as they will crave to have fresh legs for the first real mountaintop finish of the Tour de France at La Planche des Belles Filles in Stage 7 on Saturday. On Saturday Stage 7 will starts into the medium mountains with a climb of 1035m this is where the race gets very appealing.
