Wednesday July 18, 2012, the 16th stage of the Tour de France will be a slight smooth day after having the much-needed day of rest in the historic stage town of Pau, the mountaineers will put on their hiking boots for a arduous trail up into the southern mountains of France.
Stage 16 has high mountainous track with a total 2,115m high point over a distance of 197km, it schedule from Pau to Bagneres-de-Luchon.
With the possibility to hold their breath the day before, the commencement of this stage will certainly feel like the beginning of the end of this marathon race. Stage 16 corresponds to the first stride towards the final quarter of the 2012 Tour de France.
Pau is a veteran of the Tour too, standing behind Paris and Bordeaux in total stages to be honored. Its 87,000 residents have seen the Tour stop in 64 times in the history of the esteemed race. This time, it comes during a key decision point in the route.
The riders will fight back through 197 km of mountainous terrain before finally reaching Bagneres-de-Luchon, another historic town for the Tour de France. Bagneres-de-Luchon has hosted a stage on 51 previous occasions, though it is a much smaller town than its comrade in Pau.
It will be important for The top riders to keep their momentum moving forward that will really help them to successfully finishing the race.
