On the Day 4 of the 1st test match against West Indian team, New Zealand delivered an excellent performance and made the game more exciting. Most importantly, they restricted the hosts to a lead of 171 and then, amazingly knocked off those runs and are in the lead, though; they have lost three wickets in the process. Guptill played well again but the reason while the Kiwis are a touch comfortable right now is because of the 139-ball 84 from McCullum.
West Indians began the day with the intention of maintaining their dominant position. Narsingh, Deonarine and Darren Sammy completed their half-centuries on a 4th day pitch which didn’t benefit too many players. The hosts successfully went past 500 runs and gain a lead of over 150 runs for the first time since 2006 Multan test.
Windies has to bear the brunt at this simple pitch but Narine was bowling much better than Vettori. A bit of batting to come for the Kiwis, two sessions is what they need to bat out to save this game. Skipper Ross Taylor is out there in the middle order to provide a supporting edge to the batting line.
Sunil Narine and Kemar Roach grabbed crucial wickets in the final hour to keep West Indies on the path to victory over New Zealand in the first Test yesterday here, after resolute batting from Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill appeared to keep the opponents in balance.
Off-spinner Narine finished the fourth day with 2-67 from 26 overs, including the scalp of Guptill, and Roach removed McCullum as the New Zealanders reached 199 for three in their second innings–a lead of 28–at the close.
The tourists played well throughout the Day 4 but they have much pressure to perform well on the final day to save the game.
