The 2012 Summer Olympics are in full swing, but fans have yet to watch Team USA in the men’s basketball tournament. After weeks of preparation, Team USA is finally ready to tipoff its London 2012 Olympics schedule Sunday.
Each team has to play five games against their group through Monday, August 6. After group play, only the top total four teams from both Pool A (USA, France, Argentina, Lithuania, Nigeria and Tunisia) and Pool B (Spain, Australia, Brazil, Russia, Great Britain and China) advance to the semifinal round.
The US Olympic team, while an obvious favorite, does have some holes in it. After Tyson Chandler there is really not another legitimate center on the team. For whatever reason Kevin Love seems to have fallen out of favor with US head coach Mike Krzyzewski, and only noob Anthony Davis figures to see real time at the 5-spot. The US squad likely to play may include: Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, and Tyson Chandler.
France, ranked 12th in the FIBA World Rankings, features eight players with NBA ties. Most prominent of them is point guard Tony Parker, who despite an eye injury suffered during a recent nightclub brawl, plans to start and lead the French side.
On the wing, Nicolas Batum, fresh off a new four-year contract with the Portland Trailblazers, may draw the task of defending James. Batum and his Blazers mates had no luck stopping LeBron when Portland took on Miami last March. James scored 38 points in the teams' lone meeting of 2012. The French line up may include: Tony Parker, Nando De Colo, Kevin Seraphin, Boris Diaw, and Nicolas Batum.
America has a great chance of making the final four, while French team has enough talent to grab a medal.
