Last match of the day will be played between the Black Sticks (New Zealand #6 in world) and Las Leonas (Argentina #2 in world) at 21:15BST. New Zealand are the current table toppers with two wins from as many games (against Australia (1-0) opening game and South Africa (4-1)), while Champions Trophy 2012 winners Argentina overwhelmed South Africa (7-1) in their first match of the competition but lost to current Pan American Champions USA (0-1) in the second match.
With help from a Brace from Captain Luciana Aymar (8″-PC and 29″-PC) and a goal from Josefina Sruoga (20″-PC), Martina Cavallero (25″-FG), Carla Rebecchi (31″-FG), Noel barrionuevo (62″-PC), Silvina D’Elia (68″-PC) each, Argentina routed South Africa 7-1 to get their campaign for Gold in London off to a breathtaking start at the Riverbank Arena. However they have to suffer a loss in their second match against U.S. with the only goal scored by Taylor Shannon (28″) – the lone goal of the game when USA did it again after Guadalajara, Maxico (Pan American Games 2011).
The opening match of the Women’s Hockey Competition at London 2012 was won by Black Sticks who scored an early goal in the 3rd minute of the game. The only goal of the game was scored by Cathryn Finlayson on a Penalty Corner. Then World number 6 side New Zealand held on and absorbed the pressure their trans-Tasmanian arch-rival Hockeyroos. New Zealand enjoyed a 4-1 victory against South Africa and recorded their 2nd win of 2012 Olympics from as many matches.
Now both teams are ready for an encounter in their quest for a madle.
