The U.S. Open 2012 continued positively on Tuesday without any rain like witnessed on Monday. A handful of minor upsets were seen from both the men’s and women’s sides of the draw.
Highlights from the Tuesday’s action are as follows:
Agnieszka Radwanska (2) defeated Nina Bratchikova 6-1, 6-1
Andy Roddick (20) defeated Rhyne Williams 6-3, 6-4, 6-4
Venus Williams defeated Bethanie Mattek-Sands 6-3, 6-1
Tomas Berdych (6) defeated David Goffin 7-5, 6-3, 6-3
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga defeated Karol Beck 6-3, 6-1, 7-6 (2)
Guillermo Garcia-Lopez defeated Juan Monaco (10) 3-6, 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (3)
Angelique Kerber defeated Anne Keothavong 6-2, 6-0
Novak Djokovic (2) defeated Paolo Lorenzi 6-1, 6-0, 6-1
Serena Williams (4) defeated Coco Vandeweghe 6-1, 6-1
Kiki Bertens defeated Christina McHale (21) 4-6, 6-4, 6-3
After two days into the 132nd U.S. Open, the closest thing to an upset was when rising star Sloane Stephens defeated No. 22 seeded Francesca Schiavone.
Now as the tournament is moving into the second round, things should start to get much more interesting. Wednesday, August 29th is the third day of the Open, and many of the sport’s best will be playing at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, including Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova, Andy Murray, Juan Martin del Potro and the Williams sisters.
The first match will begin on each court at 11:00 a.m. EDT, with the remaining scheduled matches immediately following.
