The tourists are to face a tough challenge once again but to avoid another heavy loss as they will face the hosts in Bangalore on Friday.

New Zealand is hoping to avoid a second successive 2-0 series loss, and after being bowled out for just 159 and 164 in the two innings of the first test – which the visitors lost by an innings and 115 runs – the skipper knows well which areas to work on.

Kane Williamson scored 32 and 52 in the first test, while opener Brendon McCullum scored 42 in an innings of uncharacteristic restraint in the second dig, but more effort is required of a team that lacked technique and resolution. The probable New Zealand line up will include: Ross Taylor (capt), Trent Boult, Doug Bracewell, Daniel Flynn, James Franklin, Martin Guptill, Chris Martin, Brendon McCullum, Tarun Nethula, Jeetan Patel, Tim Southee, Kruger van Wyk, Neil Wagner, Bradley-John Watling, Kane Williamson.

One the other hand, India is quite pleased with the performance of its top-order, which performed well even in the absence of retired stalwarts Rahul Dravid and V.V.S. Laxman. No.3 batsman Cheteshwar Pujara’s knock of 159 helped India to a first innings total of 438, after which New Zealand succumbed to the spin of off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin (12-85) and left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha (6-92).

India skipper, MS Dhoni praised Pujara for holding the innings together and giving the captain a chance to enforce a follow-on. The probabe Indian squad include: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Sachin Tendulkar, Subramaniam Badrinath, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, Zaheer Khan, Pragyan Ojha, Umesh Yadav, Ajinkya Rahane, Piyush Chawla, Ishant Sharma, Suresh Raina.
