On the 5^th day of the U.S. Open 2012, Malaysia’s world number one Datuk Nicol David advanced to the quarterfinals of the Squash championship held at Drexel University’s Daskalakis Athletic Center in Philadelphia, United States.

Nicol defeated Camille Serme of France, a qualifier, in straight sets 11-6, 11-8 and 11-8 in 42 minutes.

The 29 year-old Penang lass will meet another qualifier, Alison Waters of England, in the quarterfinals.

The in-form Waters, who recently defeated Nicol at the Carol Weymuller Open in New York, defeated eighth seed Natalie Grinham of the Netherlands in a gruelling five set tie 12-10, 5-11, 8-11, 11-5 and 11-7.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s second top women squash player, Low Wee Wern slipped at the first hurdle to world number two, Raneem El Weleily of Egypt, 8-11, 11-5, 8-11 and 5-11 in 38 minutes.

Four Egyptian squash players will play in the quarter-finals. Eighth-seeded Mohamed El-Shorbagy will face Englishman James Willstrop, the world no. 1, while fifth-seeded Karim Darwish will take on world no. 3 Gregory Gaultier of France.

Fourth-seeded Ramy Ashour and seventh Amr Shabana will be facing England’s Peter Barker, world no. 6, and Nick Matthew, world no. 2, respectively.

Egyptians are hoping to get a third consecutive U.S. Open triumph, having won the title in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
