Like the opening two days, England took full control on day three, reaching 509 for 6. At stumps, they have taken huge 193 lead, with Alastair Cook making yet another big century (190), while Jonathan Trott (87), Kevin Pietersen (54) and Matt Prior (40*) also played with epic enthusiasm.
The Indian bowling seemed better as they picked up five wickets on 3rd day but couldn’t stop visitors from taking a big lead. After getting the wickets of Ian Bell (5), Pietersen and Samit Patel (33), India aimed to finish the rivals’ innings below 500, but Prior played aggressively to ensure that game remains in their control.
India got rid of Cook through run out by Virat Kohli off Zheer Khan when Pietersen (29*) whipped to square leg where Kohli threw the ball at the non-striker’s end befor English captain could ground his bat. Cook was just ten short of his second double century of the series but did his part as the team reached 381 for 3 at tea.
Before Cook, India got the wicket of Trott, who get caught behind off Pragyan Ojha. Trott came into this game with consecutive ducks, played aggressively this time before getting dismissed after adding reasonable score to the total.
The wicket-taking opportunity of the morning came to India when Cook gave a return catch to Ishant who couldn’t grab the simplest chance. Cook was also dropped on 17 by Pujara on Thursday and he was batting on 156 when Ishant gave him another life on Friday.
