On the close of day 2 of 1st test match, Sachin Tendulkar repeated his past brilliant performance at the same venue against the Australian bowling attack. Tendulkar came at a time when Indian team slipped to 12 for 2, in reply to Australia’s 380, and managed to take the score to 182 for 3 by stumps with 71-run inning.
James Pattinson smashed both Indian openers Murali Vijay (10) and Virender Sehwag (2) cheaply by making them bowled. Afterwards, Tendulkar devised solid partnerships of 93 with Cheteshwar Pujara (44) and 77 with Virat Kohli (50*).
Earlier during Aussies innings, R Ashwin successfully collected career-best 7 for 103 as the visitors were bowled out for 380 by adding another 64 runs to the overnight total. 54-run stand between Australian captain Michael Clarke (130) and Peter Siddle (19) made the hosts furious.
Clarke (130) has today passed Greg Chappell in the all-time list of Australian Test run-scorers – miscued a lofted shot to long-off. His was the highest score by an Australia captain in India, surpassing Ricky Ponting’s 123 in Bangalore in 2008.
Sehwag then took a catch at slip to give Harbhajan Singh a wicket in his 100th Test, sending back Siddle for 19. Pattinson (15) and Nathan Lyon (3) managed 16-run partnership before the latter was caught beautifully by Kohli at backward short leg.
