After almost 20 years of skating, Robin Groot (24) stops her top sport career
Skater Robin Groot has decided to stop her career as a top athlete. The 24-year-old driver of Team IKO-X2O announced this in a message on Instagram.
“After almost twenty years I stop skating. One of the most difficult decisions ever, but it’s time,” writes Groot.
The Alkmaarse conquered several world titles as a junior, but she did not succeed in reaching the world top among the seniors. She achieved her best result in 2023, when she finished fourth as a replacement for Joy Beune at the European Allround European Championship in Hamar, Norwegian.
“They were years of hard work, falling, getting up and celebrating successes. Now the time has come to close this chapter. I am proud of the road I have taken. Thanks to everyone who was part of this,” said Groot.
World titles in juniors
Big debut in 2019 with the seniors, at the NK distances. A year later she made a big impression at the juniors’ World Cup when she managed to conquer four world titles, in the 1,500 meters, 3,000 meters, mass art and the team pursuit.
She excelled the most on the all -round tournaments. For example, Groot became fifth at the NK (2022, 2024 and 2025) and ended just next to the stage at the European Championships in 2023.

Big about farewell: ‘Just think of the beautiful things again’
Groot will now focus on her HBO study sports marketing. At along the line and surroundings she said that her decision to stop also feels like a liberation.
“I can just look back on all the beautiful moments and the beautiful things that I have achieved, while lately I had been busy with the negative things that had not succeeded, for example.”
