Damp weather did not dampen the spirits down at the MCG as Bermuda XI and West Indies HPC played a rain shortened 30 overs a side match.
The match officials and teams elected to change the playing strip this morning due to a wet bowlers run up due to morning rains.
West Indies won the toss and elected to bat first under cloudy skies. The West Indies team got off to a flyer with Powell and Gilbert (31) sharing a partnership of 79 for the first wicket. Powell would go on to make 46 but West Indies HPC crumbled from 88-2 to 171 all out. A shocking collapse that culminated in 7 wickets falling for 17 runs.
In reply, the Bermuda XI captain, David Hemp set the MCG ablaze with some clean hitting helping himself to 78 from 62 balls and a whopping 7 sixes. The heroics were not enough as Bermuda XI fell short by 19 runs.
A great start to 9 days of entertaining cricket at MCG, tomorrow Canada XI get their turn against WI HPC.
