"Gianluca has done well during his time with the team in preseason," said Toronto FC Head Coach and Technical Director Aron Winter. "He is a young player with skill and has a bright future. We feel he will fit well into the system that we want to play."
"It’s nice to be able to play in my home country," said Zavarise. "I’ve been away from Canada for six or seven years so joining a Canadian club and being able to play in Canada is nice."
Zavarise began his career in Italy with Calcio Montebelluna and then AC Belluno 1905. From there he joined VfL Bochum II in Germany and most recently played for Iraklis FC of the Greek Super League.
Zavarise earned his first Canadian national team call-up on May 14, 2010 for friendlies against Argentina and Venezuela. He earned his first international cap on May 29 in a 1-1 draw with Venezuela.
He will be added to Toronto FC’s roster pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate.
