Somali Cause is deeply concerned for the safety of several thousand Somali refugees who are stranded in Libya. As every country with citizens in Libya devise rescue plans, Somalis in Libya have found their fate at the mercy of angry opposition groups who would kill blacks as mercenaries for the embattled Libyan leader, Col. Gaddafi.

According to Al-Jazeera report, scores of sub-Saharan Africans were killed by angry mobs that identify the so-called mercenaries as either African or blacks. Also, reports from the BBC indicate that protestors mention the word African with "venomous hatred."

Worse, Somali Cause received reports of Somalis killed while others are confined in their homes for fear of being killed, and risk dying from starvation. These reports coincide with the UNHCR report that "no refugees registered with the UNHCR in Libya have crossed the borders into Egypt or Tunisia.”

Some of these stranded refugees are reaching out and desperately asking the world community to come to their aid. Those who reached out to Somali Cause have expressed that repatriation to the worn torn Somalia rather than becoming victims in Libya is preferable.

Somali Cause is deeply concerned about the well being of these refugees and thus;

·        Urges the International Community, humanitarian organizations, Somali Transitional Federal Government (TFG), and Somali Diaspora communities to extend the rescue operations to the thousands of Somali refugees who are caught in the cross fire between the government and the opposition groups.

·        Requests the world community to help the stranded refugees, especially those from Somalia who escaped from the violence in their homeland and remained in Libya for various reasons.

·        Recommends that those nations with substantial number of citizens in Libya consider rescuing the scores of Somali refugees as a humanitarian gesture.

·        Appeals to the Libya’s neighboring countries to facilitate the rescue efforts and accommodation to the Somali immigrants.

·        Urges the Somali Transitional Federal Government (TFG) to act with whatever resources it has to play a crucial role to rescue the thousands of Somalis in Libya who are in serious danger.

·        Asks the Somali Diaspora communities to contribute to the rescue efforts to ensure the safety of Somali refugees across Libya.

·        Appeals to the Libyan citizens to show some restrain and spare the lives of innocent refugees who are stranded in their country in the midst of chaos.
